Combs Ford Primary School

PE

“A high-quality physical education curriculum inspires all pupils to succeed and excel in competitive sport and other physically-demanding activities. It should provide opportunities for pupils to become physically confident in a way which supports their health and fitness. Opportunities to compete in sport and other activities build character and help to embed values such as fairness and respect.”

PE: Purpose of Study from the 2014 National Curriculum.

What are we trying to achieve?

Our PE curriculum is part of our ‘Big Ideas’ of Human Creativity and Personal Growth and enables our children to:

  • develop competence to excel in a broad range of physical activities;
  • are physically active for sustained periods of time;
  • engage in competitive sports and activities;
  • lead healthy, active lives.

PE Themes

  • Dance
  • Fundamentals, fitness and athletics
  • Games
  • Body Management
  • Outdoor and Adventurous Activity (OAA)
  • Swimming
  • Social, Emotional and Thinking

How do we organise learning?

To support the implementation of our PE curriculum we are guided by Get Set 4 PE. Get Set 4 PE supports our teachers to develop their PE expertise and plan and deliver engaging lessons. This ensures that our children progress by knowing more, remembering more and being able to do more.

Our PE Curriculum Overview shows the units of work our children will experience during their time with us.

PE is taught for 2 lessons every week across the school. This is shown in our example timetables.
