Combs Ford Primary School

our School Dogs

Hello! We’re Pixie and Dolly – the school dogs. This web page is all about us!

We are Labrador-Springer Spaniel crosses and are mother and daughter. Pixie (Dolly’s Mum) was born on 20th May 2013 and Dolly (Pixie’s Daughter) was born on 14th November 2014. We are both rescue dogs from Woodgreen Pets Charity in Cambridgeshire and have lived with Miss Day since April 2019.

A Message from Miss Day

The value of dogs in school has been recognised for a long time and studies have shown that they can improve the wellbeing of children and help with anxiety just by making the school environment a happier, less scary and more enjoyable environment.

A full risk assessment has been completed which you can find by following this link: Risk Assessment - School Dogs (January 2024).

Pixie and Dolly have safe spaces in school – Miss Day’s Office or the School Office. They visit their vet regularly for vaccinations and check-ups and are up-to-date with their flea and worm treatments. Pixie and Dolly will only interact with children under the supervision of Miss Day or other trusted members of staff (their school ‘Aunties’) and will always be on leads when they are moving around the school. They will be supporting children with starting the school day, nurture groups, reading and attendance. They are also often in the playground before school and at break and lunchtime. We know that some children do not like dogs – these children will have their wishes and feelings respected and will never be forced to interact with Pixie and Dolly.

If you have any individual questions or queries, please do not hesitate to speak to Miss Day.
